The Festival BD is back for its 11th edition on March 15 and 16, 2025! Organized by the Médiathèque du Bassin d’Aurillac, the event has plenty of surprises in store for comics fans and not just comics fans.
Organizing an event around comics? The idea of the Festival BD du Bassin d’Aurillac was born in 2012 during a discussion between the Médiathèque team and their elected representatives (Josiane Coste and Jean-Paul Nicolas). From the very first sketches, the project took shape in a spirit of cultural mediation, with the ambition of being accessible to as many people as possible. Free admission was thus established as a founding principle of the event, as was the desire to offer a genuine celebration of the 9th art… to which the authors responded directly!
Every year, between 20 and 30 of them make the trip to Aurillac for special encounters with readers.
In all, over 170 different authors have been welcomed in ten editions. We never wanted to increase this number,” explains Julien Segura, deputy director of the Médiathèque. The initial idea was to ensure a high quality of welcome for artists and visitors alike, while at the same time increasing the level of services and diversity of proposals.”
In conjunction with local bookshops, particular attention is paid to the plurality of genres on offer: from mainstream comics to independent comics, from children’s comics to “research” comics, from documentary comics to humor and fantasy…
