Description

A program of activities and events to celebrate the Feast of St. James: a film screening, pilgrims’ testimonials, hikes, a concert… all aimed at promoting the Via Arverna, a variant of the Santiago de Compostela route that crosses the Cantal department.
Thursday, July 23—Opening ceremony at the Carladès Cultural Center (Vic-sur-Cère), featuring a presentation of the program followed by a screening of the film *L'Âge de la marche: en chemin vers Compostelle* (70 min) by Louis Marie and Elise Blanchard. Friday, July 24—9:00 a.m.: pilgrimage walk departing from Salilhes and heading to Saint-Jacques des Blats (full-day hike; cost: €5). 8:30 p.m.: hurdy-gurdy performance by musician and storyteller Jean Dau Melhau at the Saint-Jacques school (price: €8). Saturday, July 25 – 9 a.m.: pilgrimage walk along the Via Arverna, departing from Font d’Alagnon and heading to Saint-Jacques-des-Blats (fee: €5 + €10 for the chairlift ride up to the Col de Rombière). 10 a.m.: singing workshop at the Saint-Jacques convent (advance registration required). Starting at 2:00 p.m., at the Saint-Jacques town hall, four lectures: Humbert Jacomet on Abbé Jamet; Agnès Angelier on “Pierre Fournier from Saint-Jacques to Saint-Jacques”; Michel Angelier on “What Makes the Way”; Jean-Claude Bénazet on the stories, legends, and music surrounding the Way. 6:00 p.m.: Mass celebrated by Didier Noblot, Bishop of Saint-Flour, accompanied on piano by Claude Peyronnet-Testeil (food available on site while waiting for the concert). 8:30 p.m.: evening concert at the church (admission: €8), followed at 10 p.m. by a surprise concert in the square. Sunday, July 26—Breakfast available on site in Saint-Jacques starting at 8 a.m., followed by the 9 a.m. departure of the pilgrimage walk along the Via Arverna from Saint-Jacques to Thiézac (fee: €5). 10 a.m.: Singing workshop (advance registration required). 4:30 p.m.: at the church in Thiézac, performance of “Mille diables rient à Compostelle” by actor Emmanuel (donations accepted). 6:00 p.m.: closing dance with Florence and Didier Pauvert, open to all.
